Locks, keys and safes in Sandusky

Locked out, just moved in, or running a shop with a door that won't latch. Call and say which.

Which one is you?

Locked out right now

Call (419) 626-1524. Say where you are and what is locked: a house, a car, an office or a safe.

Keep an ID close. A careful locksmith asks whether the door is yours before opening it.

If a child or a pet is shut in a hot car, call 911 first.

For a car, have the make, model and year ready. For a building, know whether the lock is a knob, a lever or a deadbolt.

Car lockouts are their own kind of job. The make and year decide which tool comes out.

A handle that turns but won't open is a different problem from a lost key. Say which on the phone.

Just bought the house? Rekey it.

Rekeying is pin work inside the cylinder. That is why the hardware on your door can stay.

Rekeying changes the pins inside each lock so every old key stops working. Your knobs, levers and deadbolts stay on the door.

Sellers, past tenants, contractors and the neighbor who fed the cat may all hold a key. Nobody can tell you how many copies exist.

Before you call, count the exterior doors, including the garage entry. Decide whether you want one key for all of them.

Hardware and keys for businesses

Commercial doors take a beating. Closers drift, levers sag, and a cylinder that sticks in January gets worse by March.

When an employee leaves with a key, the lock still trusts it. Rekeying the doors they could open closes that gap.

Call with the number of doors, the hardware on them, and who holds keys today.

A mortise lock sits inside the door edge. A phone photo of yours helps.

Desks, cabinets and file drawers have locks too.

Safes that won't open, or won't behave

A lost combination, a dial that spins without catching, a keypad that stopped answering. Call and describe what the safe is doing.

Have the make and a rough size ready. A photo of the front helps.

Handles, bolts and hinges all have to line up. Not every safe is a small box in a closet.
